RED Electrical - We install solar panels in Amlwch

Why install solar panels in Amlwch?

There are three reasons why solar panels are becoming a popular addition to homes and businesses in Amlwch:

Save energy

1. Saving energy

Why buy electricity when you can produce your own? Put simply... solar energy is free energy. Rather than pay retail prices (approx 14p per unit domestic) for all their electricity, owners of grid-tied solar photovoltaic systems generate a proportion of their own electricity, reducing the amount that they have to purchase from their supplier.

2. Making money

Until recently, the return on investment from solar panels was too low for them to appeal to anyone other than the committed environmentalist. However, with the introduction of the Clean Energy Cashback Scheme in April 2010, householders and business owners can now benefit from an additional payment directly from their electricity supplier for every unit generated, even if they use the electricity themselves.

Make money
The Clean Energy Cashback Scheme is also known as the Feed In Tariff, but this is a bit of a misnomer as you don't actually have to 'feed in' any electricity - you receive the payments anyway!

Installations up to 4kW (i.e. most domestic and smaller commercial installations) qualify for a payment of 16p per unit generated from the electricity supplier. The full table is shown below, and there is a very helpful guide to Feed in Tariffs for all technologies on the YouGen website.

 Feed In Tariffs (F.I.T.s)

Size of installation  Date of installation
01/08/2012 to 31/10/2012
(pence per kWh)
Length of tariff
(Years)
Up to 4 kW (new build)  16.0  20
 Up to 4 kW (retrofit)  16.0  20
 4-10 kW  14.5  20
 10-50 kW  13.5  20
 50-250 kW  11.5  20
 250 kW - 5 MW  7.1  20

These figures are index linked so will increase over the term in line with inflation.

As an additional bonus, when the PV system is generating more electricity than is being used, the surplus is sold back to the supplier (current rate 3.1p per unit).

3. Going green

Going green
Installing a renewable microgeneration source such as a solar PV system is a great way to reduce the carbon footprint of your household. According to the Energy Saving Trust, a typical home PV system could save around 1200 kg of CO2 per year.

Solar electricity is green and completely renewable. No carbon dioxide or any other pollutants are released from a solar PV system.

In order to maximise your savings and minimise your carbon footprint, your new solar PV system should be part of an overall energy saving strategy. For low-carbon ideas, visit our energy saving page by clicking here.
